POPCORN PARK ZOO
Popcorn Park Zoo is located, deep in the Pine Barrens of Lacey Township.
The seven-acre zoo was established for the purpose of providing a refuge
for wildlife that are elderly, sick, abandoned, abused or injured and
could no longer survive on their own or in the wild. The zoo has grown
over the years and now includes over 200 residents. Some of the main
attractions at the zoo include bears, lions, a tiger and other large
cats, an elephant, and the monkey house. Many native wildlife species
are also residents at the zoo, including foxes, raccoons, and whitetail
deer. Zoo visitors are greeted by a gaggle of geese and may be escorted
through the zoo by one or more of the friendly resident goats or deer.
The zoo is open daily from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Group tours can be scheduled
by calling (609) 693-1900.

the lake. There are four restaurants to choose from, and craft shows are
held on the premises throughout the year. Shops at Smithville open at

EDWIN B. FORSYTHE WILDLIFE REFUGE
The Brigantine Division of the Forsythe Refuge is adjacent to the Noyes
Museum, and there is an entrance on Route 9. Part of the refuge lies on
the south end of Long Beach Island, but it is closed to visitors every
summer, because the endangered piping plover nests there. The Brigantine
Division, however, is open to visitors throughout the summer. A $3
donation is requested when you enter, which helps maintain the seven miles
of dikes that accommodate cars throughout the wetlands. Avid bird-watchers
can find brant, great blue herons, giant swans, glossy ibis and many other
species. Those who love to hike nature trails will find several at the
refuge.
