Wednesday July 3rd, Gene Sullivan weighed in a 7 pound 10oz fluke
caught in the area of the mouth of the Mullica River. This means that
there are still some fluke in the back areas of the bay. If fluke is
your target fish this week, you should be aware of a water temperature
drop caused by stormy weather and rain. This means that the shallower
the water, the more likely you are to bring home fish in the fish box.
Key areas to try fishing have been on the sand bars on the North side
of 131 & 132 buoys as well as in the shallow water with many clam
stakes on the Mystic Island side of the Fish factory. Pretty much the
same old story there... If you would like to try something a little
different, try a few drifts about half a mile off the Mystic Islands
beach in front of Great Bay Marina. Gene was not the only angler to
boat some nice fluke in the mouth of the Mullica River this past week.
Also, drift along the west bank of the Great Bay from Oyster and Motts
Creek back toward the mouth of the Mullica River. The best rig of the
week???, depends on who you talk to. Some of the nicest fluke were
caught on Jig heads and plastic worms(stuff you use for weakfish &
baited with shedder and shedder oil coated squid strips), and others
found the Top & Bottom mylar(a shiny metallic stuff, kinda like
Christmas tinsel, also baited with squid strips & shedder oil) rigs to
be good producers. If you are not familiar with either of these
lures/rigs, be sure to ask at the counter and I am sure that the
counter help would be glad help.
All of us here at Scott's Bait & Tackle wish you a safe and happy holiday weekend!
