Stripers
It was a good day for catching stripers on Thursday afternoon.
Several boats came in with reports of good catches of fish in the area
of the inlet. The fish were caught all throughout the day with the
better fishing being during the last few hours of the outgoing tide.
I was also informed by a couple of customers that they saw many other
fish caught by other boats in the Inlet. Another customer felt that a
new wave of fish migrated into our area this week. I would have to
tend to agree because, there were a few throwback stripers reported on
Thursday.
Bluefish
It has been quite a while since I have heard an angler on the
radio so excited about catching fish that he called in any other boats
to join him. He was catching bluefish out in front of the Water
towers on the South end of Long Beach Island. He said that he was
fishing about a mile and a half off the beach and that the birdplay
was thick and he was catching bluefish on metal lures on every cast.
This was the first real good report on fall bluefish. However, Friday
was a different day altogether. Other anglers went in search of the
Bluefish and couldn't locate any. If you do venture out the inlet in
search of the blues, keep a good lookout for birdplay.
***GOOD TIP***
Bluefish and Striped bass will move together. If you
find a real good school of bluefish, it is likely that the Striped
Bass will be swimming underneath. Jig six ounce Hopkins lures with a
single hair hook right on the bottom. If you use lighter jigs it is
likely that you will take too long to get to the bottom and will end
up catching another blue.
Fluke
Many lumps and ridges that produced fluke
this fall, have already provided a few Striped Bass for the angler who
doesn't mind chasing around the ocean from lump to lump.
Wreck Fishing
Several real good reports of wreck fishing this week. It seems
that a lot of you already know this because, I was told that there
weren't a whole lot of free wrecks to anchor on. Tog and Sea Bass
were both caught in good numbers. I even had a report of some average
size Porgys caught on bloodworms.
Bait
It has come to my attention that many anglers are struggling to
find bait or are worried about when and where they can get it. I will
do my best to keep Bloodworms, live Grass Shrimp, Green Crabs,
Minnows, Night Crawlers and of course Eels right on through the
winter. We also will keep our selection of frozen baits well stocked.
The store will be open every day of the year to serve that fishing
fanatic who likes to cut holes in the ice, or for some reason has to
fill in a day of fishing because he was too ill to make it into work.
Fall hours:
Monday through Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm
Saturday 6:00am to 7:00pm
Sunday 6:00am to 5:00pm
