Several methods of FLOOD WARNINGS exist in Stafford Township. Information will be broadcast by the following: WJRZ-FM 100.1, WOBM-FM 92.7, WQNJ 98.5 FM, ADELPHIA CABLE SYSTEM AND THE EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM. Route alerting will be performed by the Police, Fire and First Aid.
FLOOD SAFETY MEASURES include knowing flood warning procedures, planning an evacuation route, listening to the radio and TV for flood warnings, evacuating the area when advised to do so and keeping children away from flood waters, ditches, culverts and storm drains.
Your homeowners insurance will not cover losses due to flooding. The Township participates in the NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM, which makes flood insurance available to property owners. Contact your insurance agent for information. The Zoning Department will give any property owner a written determination of their location in or out of the flood plain area, free of charge.
Books and literature are available at the Zoning Office and at the Stafford Library dealing with the new construction and other PROPERTY PROTECTION MEASURES. Any questions may be directed to the Stafford Building Department.
Chapter 213 of the Stafford Township Codes deals with FLOOD PLAIN DEVELOPMENT PERMIT REQUIREMENTS. All new construction must be elevated to at least eight feet (8') above mean sea level. This elevation has been determined to be the height that will be above the flood waters of the 100 year storm.
STORM DRAINAGE MAINTENANCE is performed by the Township. The drains can lose effectiveness when litter, motor oil or any material is improperly deposited into them. By properly disposing waste material you will not be contributing to pollution of our waterways and you will be helping to prevent flooding.
Playing basketball in any street or right-of-way is prohibited 30 minutes after sunset (but not before 9:00 pm) or before 9:00 in the morning.
In no event shall basketball playing impede the flow of traffic or violate the Noise Ordinance. Ask for Chapter 63 of the Codes of Stafford Township for further details.
Vehicles will not be tolerated. Violators will be prosecuted; penalties up to $1,000.00 can be assessed.
All businesses are required by Federal Law to provide handicap accessible entrances and bathrooms. The "Americans with Disabilities Act" (ADA) defines accessible as, "...An environment that will permit a handicapped person to operate independently with comparative ease under normal circumstances with little or no other assistance. This term is synonymous with the term "Barrier Free." If you frequent a merchant who has not complied with ADA, remind them of their obligation to provide access to everyone.

STAFFORD CURBSIDE GIVE AWAY WEEKEND
May 18 & 19
All those things cluttering your attic, basement and closets that you just can't bear to throw out because someone could probably use them will find a much appreciated home if you put them curbside on Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19. You can cruise the streets of Stafford and pick up items that you can use. It's a huge yard sale with no money involved! Anything at the curb is yours for the taking. Only items in good shape (NO CLOTHING) are to be put at the curb, such as furniture, workable appliances, knick-knacks, books, toys, curtains, Christmas decorations, pictures, etc. Should anything be left at your curb at the conclusion of the give-away, the public works department will remove it your next regular trash pick-up day. You will be able to clear your storage areas and fill them up the same weekend. Remember - if you don't want
it, someone else might! For additional information call 597-7654 ext. 12.
